Associate Vice Provost for Enrichment Programs and Director of the Honors Program

Dr. Goodstein administers UConn’s Honors Program. She works with staff and faculty from across the university to ensure that UConn’s Honors Program recruits excellent students and provides them with high-quality academics and enriching co-curricular experiences during their collegiate careers. She is directly responsible for policy, strategic planning, curriculum, alumni affairs, and fundraising for the Honors Program. Dr. Goodstein oversees the Enrichment Programs, four other academic programs for highly-motivated undergraduates: Individualized and Interdisciplinary Studies Program, Office of National Scholarships, Office of Undergraduate Research, and Study Abroad Programs.
Dr. Goodstein has a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the Graduate School of the City University of New York. She served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Simmons College, an all-women’s college in Boston. Previously she was a faculty member and administrator at Penn State University. At Penn State she served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Director of the Women’s Studies Program, and member of the Sociology Department. A criminologist known for her work on correctional institutions and criminal sentencing, Dr. Goodstein has co-authored four books, including: The American Prison (1989), and Gender, Crime and Justice: Original Feminist Readings (2006), along with many journal articles on criminal justice and higher education.

Associate Director of the Honors Program for Enrollment

Ms. Szarek manages many aspects of admission into and enrollment in the Honors Program, including the oversight of Honors-related student records.
As an Honors Scholar graduate of the University of Connecticut with a long history in her position, Ms. Szarek offers a unique perspective on the Honors Program. Throughout her time in her role, she has been involved in many aspects of the development of the Honors Program. Her contributions have included work in enrollment management, admissions, recruitment, academic advising, marketing, and event organization.

JENNIFER LEASE BUTTS, Ph.D.
Associate Director of the Honors Program and Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research
Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), Room 418
Dr. Lease Butts administers OUR programs and grants including Frontiers in Undergraduate Research, the Summer Undergraduate Research Fund, and OUR Grants. In Honors she works with Honors curriculum and Honors Peer Leadership and Mentoring programs, including INTD 198. She also manages Enrichment Awards for Presidential Scholars.
A graduate of the University of Arkansas (B.A. with Honors and M.Ed.) and the University of Georgia (Ph.D.), her background includes working with talented and gifted students in an early college entry program, working with Honors students in various capacities at three universities, and teaching Honors courses on leadership and mentoring.

MEG BISHOP
Administrative and Communications Manager, Honors Program
Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), Room 417
Ms. Bishop handles communications and major event planning for the Honors Program. She also oversees administration of the office and the budget.
A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. and Fordham University, her background includes teaching elementary school in the central city, working with talented and gifted youth, and providing support to staff and community members at a non-profit organization devoted to deliberative dialogue on public issues.

MISSY KORDUNER
Program Coordinator, Honors Program
Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), Room 419
Missy coordinates programs and events sponsored by the Honors Program. She also advises the Honors Council and works with Residential Life and the Honors halls. Missy also works with Alumni Outreach with Honors graduates.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Missy received her BA in Music and her MA in Education. Prior to returning to UConn, Missy worked in Residential Life as a Residence Life Coordinator and was responsible for all daily functions and programming in the residence hall. She has experience working with Honors students, developing academic initiatives, and implementing faculty-student involvement programs.

Student Records & Technology Coordinator, Honors Program

Mrs. DuBois processes all student data and records for the Honors Program, including Honors conversions, application processing, and tracking Honors events used towards the Sophomore Certificate. She also contributes to the Honors website.

Program Assistant, Honors Program, Office of Undergraduate Research, and Office of National Scholarships

For the Office of Undergraduate Research, Mrs. Coughlin processes OUR Grants and disbursements, OUR Research opportunities, and SURF disbursements. She also manages logistical aspects of the Frontiers in Undergraduate Research poster exhibition, among many other administrative duties. For the Office of National Scholarships, Mrs. Coughlin maintains up-to-date information on each of the scholarships handled by the office. She meets with students to explain eligibility requirements and application processes, and oversees the final submission of all national scholarship applications. For the Honors Program, she provides support for INTD 198 courses and for the Presidential Enrichment Awards.
With twenty years of experience in the Honors Program, Mrs. Coughlin welcomes the opportunity to help students and answer inquiries about opportunities offered by these offices. JESSAMY HOFFMANN, Ph.D.
Assistant Director and Academic Advisor, Honors Program
Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE), 104
Dr. Hoffmann is the primary advisor for Honors students in the ACES program. She also works with the Rowe Scholars program to expand both programming and recruitment opportunities.
Dr. Hoffmann is a graduate of Mary Baldwin College (B.A. in English with a History minor), the University of Connecticut (M.A. in Gifted Education), and the University of Virginia (Ph.D. in Higher Education). Her background includes working with college-level students as the Assistant Dean of Academic Services at a public university.
