ATTENTION HONORS DIRECTORS AND DEANS
The deadline to submit a student paper for the 2008 Portz Scholars Competition is Friday, June 1, 2008. Please don't overlook this important task in the rush to complete the semester! NCHC institutional members are invited to nominate one paper per institution written by an undergraduate honors student for the 2008 Portz Scholars competition. The three 2008 Portz Scholars will be featured at a plenary session at the 2008 National Collegiate Honors Conference in San Antonio in October. In addition, each Portz Scholar will receive a $250.00 stipend. There is no length limitation on paper submissions. Honors Directors and Deans must submit 12 copies of the nominated paper. THE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP COMMISSION
The Global Leadership Commission (GLC) invites local, national, and international leaders to campus each year to discuss their path to leadership and what it means to be a global leader with students. Eight student members of the GLC are responsible for planning, organizing, and hosting these speakers. GLC members for 2008-2009 are:

REMINDER ABOUT THE JAVITS FELLOWSHIP FOR RISING SENIORS
The Office of National Scholarships would like to remind any rising seniors who are considering applying for the prestigious Javits Fellowship (for graduate school) that they must submit GRE scores with their applications in October. This means that they MUST take the GRE over the summer. For more information about the Javits, visit the ONS website or contact Jill Deans, ons@uconn.edu.
THE FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRAD STUDY ABROAD
The Institute of International Education has announced the opening of the 2008 competition for Fulbright Grants for Graduate Study Abroad. Approximately 1000 awards to 140 countries will be available for the 2009-2010 academic year! Graduating seniors, graduate students and students who have recently completed an undergraduate degree, who are US citizens at the time of application, are eligible for Fulbright grants for postgraduate study and/or research abroad. Grants are available to do research or an internship, to do advanced degree work at a university abroad and to teach conversational English in public schools and universities. The deadline for submitting completed applications to the Fulbright Scholarship Committee of the University of Connecticut is 4 p.m. on SEPTEMBER 18, 2008. ATTENTION RISING SOPHOMORES!
Phi Kappa Phi is introducing the Emerging Scholar Award to recognize rising sophomores at member institutions. Students must have a GPA of 3.75 out of 4.0, have a minimum of 30 semester hours and a maximum of 60. THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS JULY 14, 2008. Phi Kappa Phi will grant 60 awards of $250. PATH—Peer Allies Through Honors—is a dynamic group of Honors students who are serving as mentors for incoming Honors freshmen. Keep in mind.. PATH is a flexible time commitment—you and your mentee decide the length and frequency of your meetings. Mentors will receive a brief training session at the start of the semester, which may include Peerfest. Mentoring can be very rewarding, so join PATH today!
