HONORS PROGRAM FAQ'S: ALL ABOUT HONORS EVENTS
1. What are Honors Events?
Honors Events are designated programs and activities either sponsored or supported by the Honors Program and meet the event requirement for students working toward the Sophomore Honors Certificate. These programs are designed to enhance the Honors Program experience through intellectual discussion, community development, and student-faculty interaction. While the Honors Program offers many events to our students, not all events are designated as Honors Events.
2. How do I know if an event is designated as an "Honors Event" for the Sophomore Honors Certificate?
There are different avenues to find out if an event is a designated "Honors Event." In the fall calendar that was distributed to all Honors students at the start of the semester, there is an asterisk (*) next to each event that is an Honors Event for the Sophomore Honors Certificate. You can also check the emails that Missy sends out every Friday afternoon regarding upcoming events. In the email, she will indicate which events are Honors Events.
3. Who needs to attend Honors Events?
Any student in their first or second year that is working toward their Sophomore Certificate is required to attend a certain number of events. Juniors and seniors are not required to attend any Honors Events, but are strongly encouraged to participate in the activities to enhance their Honors experience.
4. How do I get credit for attending a designated Honors Event?
Following attendance at an Honors Event, students need to complete the "event journal form." This form is located on the Honors website, www.honors.uconn.edu, under "forms" or can be picked up in the Honors Program office. The form should be completed and turned in to the Honors Program office within TWO WEEKS of attending the event to receive credit toward the Sophomore Honors Certificate requirements.
5. What happens if I RSVP for an event and can no longer attend?
As you are aware, some events have limited space available and thus require an RSVP. It is very important that if you RSVP and then can no longer attend the event that you let Missy know as soon as possible (missy.korduner@uconn.edu). Events with limited space usually have a waiting list of students that wanted to attend and thus, if you cannot attend, another student can benefit from the experience. While we do understand that emergencies come up, the earlier you can let Missy know that you will not be attending the easier it is to notify another student.
