ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE HONORS PROGRAM
Get to know the NEW staff members of the Honors Program!
Yolanda Negrón...
Yolanda is from Willimantic, Connecticut. After obtaining a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in Spanish, with a Minor in Latin American Studies from Eastern CT State University, she worked for some time with the Department of Children and Families in Willimantic. Yolanda has served for several terms on the Windham Board of Selectmen, representing the Willimantic Service District. Yolanda is excited to be learning all about the Honors Program and the University in general. Despite still being in the training process, she is eager and willing to help in any way she can!
Jessamy Hoffmann...
Originally from Maine, Jess received her B.A. in English with a minor in History from Mary Baldwin College, her M.A. in Gifted Education from the University of Connecticut, and her Ph.D in Higher Education from the University of Virginia. She hails most recently from Virginia, where she was the Assistant Dean of Academic Services at the University of Mary Washington. Despite (or because of) spending the last few years in Virginia, Jess is very happy to return to New England. She’s a big fan of the fall leaves and the ocean. Her husband is thrilled to be able to watch New England sports on a regular basis, in spite of his upbringing in Illinois. Though Jess’s family remains in the south (Maryland, Virginia, and Florida), her missing of them will be mitigated by the nearness of the Dairy Bar, as she has a keen interest in anything that has to do with dessert. And of course, she’s very excited to be a part of the UConn Honors Program!

BE HEARD! VOICE YOUR CONCERNS ON THE FINANCIAL STABILITY OF WOMEN
On Wednesday February 27, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women will hold a public hearing in the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center. The PCSW recently commissioned a report titled Where Connecticut Stands that raised concerns on issues such as job security, education and training, and more. The report can be found on the PCSW webpage. "Getting to a Better Tomorrow: Economic and Financial Security for Women" serves as a vehicle for citizens to voice their own concerns on the economic positions of women today; some possible topics include the cost of education, pay equity, financial literacy, and more. For information on how to testify at a formal public hearing, contact updates@uconn.edu.
