HONORS REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Fall 2009 Registration is underway!
Registration for Fall 2009 began on Monday, March 23.  Students will have access to the registration system beginning on the date listed as their enrollment appointment in PeopleSoft.  Students should also review the Honors registration page HERE for a listing of Honors courses and information regarding priority registration, meeting with your Honors advisor, and more. 

Honors Core Course Requirement
Students who entered Honors at UConn as first-year students in fall 2007 or after are required to earn at least three Honors credits in an approved Honors Core Curriculum course in order to meet the requirements for Sophomore Honors. You need to take this class sometime during your first or second years.  View the Honors course list HERE to see the listing of approved Honors Core courses.  The requirements for Sophomore Honors are located HERE

Honors Participation Requirement
To remain in good standing in the Program, students MUST earn Honors credit in at least one Honors course or conversion during each academic year (exceptions are made for students studying abroad). The Honors Office reviews class enrollments at the end of the spring semester.  If you have not taken any honors work this year, you will be eligible for dismissal from the Program.

The undergraduate career is a time to explore and what better way than through a more enriching experience of an Honors course.  The complete list of Honors classes can be found HERE.  Watch updates over the next few weeks to hear more about featured courses.

Attention: Graduating Seniors 2009
FINAL CALL FOR HONORS GRADUATION FORMS – MARCH 18

All May and August, 2009 candidates for Honors graduation must submit forms by Wednesday, March 18 to be included in the Honors listing for Commencement 2009.  These students (and any December 2009 candidates who have submitted forms) will also be included on the invitation list for the Honors Medals Ceremony on May 3, 2009.  Students who will be graduating this year must act quickly!  Honors graduation forms are available on-line HERE and must be submitted with appropriate signatures.  If you are graduating this year and you have any questions, please e-mail Patricia.Szarek@uconn.edu immediately.

 

Don't forget! OAKLAWN SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

Each year, the Honors Program sponsors the Oaklawn Scholarship for as many as four exceptional Honors students. The competition is open to sophomores and juniors who did NOT receive merit financial aid from the University. Recipients of this prestigious scholarship are chosen according to academic excellence, involvement in the Honors community, and leadership values. Students will receive awards of up to $2,000 per year ($1,000 per semester) to be applied directly to the student’s fee bill. The deadline to apply this year is March 31, 2009.

Applications can be found online and returned to the Honors office in CUE 419, or emailed to honors@uconn.edu.

IMUSE 2009 BEIJING SUMMER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Project IMUSE (Initiating Mutual Understanding through Student Exchange) is a nonprofit organization offering undergraduate and graduate students around the United States with a unique fellowship opportunity in China. Fellowship delegates will be provided with full living accommodations in Beijing for two weeks as they participate in a series of group discussions, cultural activities, speaker events, and guided tours that will promote both their understanding of China and of their Chinese peers. All events will be conducted in English and NO knowledge of Chinese is necessary. Please refer to the IMUSE 2009 website for more information! More information can also be found on the "IMUSE" group page on Facebook or on the "Project IMUSE" product page. Applications can be found online and are due no later than April 1, 2009.

 

STUDY ABROAD IN LONDON THIS SUMMER OR FALL

UCONN in London offers you the chance to study, work, and live in one of the most international cities in the world for the summer or for an entire semester! Spaces are still available for UConn Summer in London, which runs May 16 through June 28. The application deadline has been extended to April 1, 2009! Course offerings include.. Shakespeare (ENGL 3503/3505: 3 credits), World Musics of London (INTD 3993), Museum Cultures (ANTH 3093/ARTH 3093), and London’s Global Geographies (GEOG 3120/HIST 3993). UConn in London for the fall semester focuses on community service and global citizenship. The program combines unique coursework with hands-on service experience through a partnership with Community Service Volunteers, a world-renown non-profit organization in the UK!

BECOME A PATH MENTOR!

Become a mentor! If you would like to provide a great experience for an incoming Honors student and have an impact on the future of PATH, volunteer to be a mentor! The incoming class will be a large one, so lots of mentors are needed. Applications are available in the Honors Office and are due April 17.

PATH PROGRAMS

Grab your mentor or mentee and come to the following events!

    • Tie Dye – Sunday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. in the Shippee Pit
    • Scavenger Hunt – Sunday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. outside on the side of Wilson that faces Rt. 195
    • End of the Year Bash – Sunday, April 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the Shippee Dining Room

     

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE HONORS COUNCIL!

  • Last chance to purchase Honors Formal Tickets!
    Take a break from studying by dancing the night away at the Fourth Annual Honors Formal (sponsored by Honors Council).  Transportation and a five-course meal are provided.  Tickets must be purchased by Friday, March 27; for ticketing locations visit us at http://www.hc.uconn.edu.  First come, first serve!
    Date:  Saturday, April 4 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm
    Place:  Zenny's Banquet Facility
    Cost:  $35 (Non-Honors Dates Welcome)

  • Relay for Life Bake Sale
    Help Honors Council raise money for cancer research:  Monday, March 30 from 11:00 am to 3 pm in the Student Union.
  • Dance Down Memory Lane
    Senior Citizen Prom--make them feel young again!  RSVP at UConnHC@gmail.com by March 27!
    Date:  Friday, April 3 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
    Place:  Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation
    This event is FREE; Transportation and a meal are included!
  • Honorable Mention Submissions Due by Friday, March 27!
