SENIORS – SUBMIT YOUR THESIS ELECTRONICALLY
Seniors, you can submit your thesis electronically and make this significant intellectual achievement available for the world to see! It is highly recommended that as an Honors graduates you post your thesis on DigitalCommons@UConn, the institutional repository. IT’S EASY! Once a hard copy of your thesis has been submitted to the Honors Office with a signed approval form, send a copy of your thesis to honors@uconn.edu as an attachment. Your e-mail should also include: Your name, major, title of your thesis, the name of your thesis advisor, your graduation date, an abstract and 3 to 5 keywords that you feel best describe the subject matter of your thesis! INTERESTED IN BEING A UNIVERSITY SCHOLAR?
Will you be a junior in Fall 2008? Are you interested in the University Scholar Program? If you are, then you should plan to attend a University Scholar Informational Meeting on Thursday, April 17 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM in ITE C80. Students will be given an overview the University Scholar Program and its application process, and hear from faculty committee members and current University Scholars. University Scholar information can be found on-line at www.us.uconn.edu. The 2008 application materials will be on-line by July 15.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE FOR UNDERGRADUTES PANEL
On Tuesday April 15, 2008, the Honors Program will present a panel on research opportunities for undergraduates in ALL academic fields. The panel will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Shippee Pit! Come along to get advice on everything from how to choose a program to how it will help prepare you for the future! Panel members include Dr. Jennifer Lease Butts of
the Office of Undergraduate Research and Dr. Lee Aggison Jr. of the MCB department,

Social Entrepreneurship and the Guatemala Social Entrepreneurship Program
-- AN HONORS EVENT!--
WHEN? April 14th 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
WHERE? Student Union, Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center, room 437
What is social entrepreneurship? We invite you to attend a roundtable with Provost Peter Nicholls, Congressman Joe Courtney, Study Abroad Director Ross Lewin, social entrepreneur Greg VanKirk and philanthropist Ed Satell to discuss the concept of “social entrepreneurship,” using business opportunities to promote social change and solve problems.
Greg VanKirk is a former Guatemalan Peace Corps volunteer and co-founder of the Social Entrepreneurship Corps. He will discuss his experiences in Guatemala and how he came to be an economic development consultant for numerous international organizations. Ed Satell is a philanthropist and businessman who just attended his 50th class reunion at UConn last year. Ed will highlight the benefits of promoting social entrepreneurism for students and the countries around the world it impacts.
Ross Lewin, the director of UConn’s Study Abroad Program will discuss an exciting new opportunity sponsored by the Honors Program and School of Business. This program enables students to spend eight weeks in Guatemala working with the Social Entrepreneur Corps.
** UCONN'S FIRST SWIM WITH MIKE EVENT! **
Swim with Mike is an annual swim-a-thon to raise money for the Physically Challenged Student Athletes’ Scholarship Fund. The goal of this annual event is “to provide financial resources for advanced education that pave the way for physically challenged student athletes to overcome their tragedies and realize their full potential." Some of the day's activities will include:
** Lap Swimming - Find sponsors to donate per lap or a set total (Swimmers exempt from the door fee)
** Water Volleyball Tournament - $30 registration fee per team in advance or $40 on the day of the event, 6 people per team, prizes for the winners! (All players are exempt from the door fee) Email your team name/ team representative's name and number in advance to UConnSAAC@gmail.com
** Silent Auction, Free pizza, wings, and more!

An Honors scholar in the UConn School of Music is presenting a lecture recital titled "Ernest Chausson's "Sept Melodies" (op.2) compositional and poetic influences in Paris and the Parnassian School." This event will take place on Thursday May 10, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Von der Mehden Recital Hall. Any interested students are encouraged to attend!
BECOME A Q CENTER TUTOR!
Do you want to help others, refresh or sharpen your knowledge of fundamental mathematics, physics, chemistry or statistics, and earn money all at the same time? The number of students coming for help at the Q Tutoring Area in the library has grown so much that we need to hire a number of tutors to start next year. Please consider applying, and encourage other academically strong students as well.
The Quantitative Learning Tutoring Center, located in the Library, is currently accepting applications for Fall 2008 undergraduate Q Tutors. The Q Center offers competitive wages and flexible hours in a great working environment. Q Tutors must have a strong background in mathematics, statistics, physics or chemistry.
