SAVE THE DATE for the Fall Honors Ceremony on Monday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Union. Freshmen will attend the ceremony with their INTD 1784 groups. Juniors, did you earn your Sophmore Honors Certificate? If so, please look for your invitation in your campus mail late next week.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! LET’S PAINT THE PIT!!!
Help re-decorate the Shippee Pit. The first step: PAINTING!!!! You can work all day or for a few hours. All paint supplies will be provided. Painting days are: Sunday, October 5 from 2-6 pm; Saturday, October 11 from 10-6 pm; and Sunday, October 12 from 10-6 pm. Please email Missy.Korduner@uconn.edu if you are interested in volunteering. In your email please indicate which days and times you are interested in volunteering.
SUBMIT PICTURES AND LEAVE YOUR MARK IN HONORS!
The Honors Program and the Department of Residential Life are looking for pictures of you and your friends! Submit pictures of you and your friends attending athletic events, playing in the snow, hanging out in the Honors communities, whatever! These pictures will be used to re-decorate the Shippee Pit. Please make sure ALL students in the picture approve the use of the picture for print AND include everyone’s names in the picture. HIPS COORDINATOR POSITION AVAILABLE
The goal of the Honors organization Honors Initiatives for Prospective Students is to assist with the recruitment of prospective Honors students. If you are interested in getting more involved in Honors Program and improving your leadership skills, consider applying for the student coordinator position! Student coordinators play a pivotal role in organizing and developing the HIPS program and recruitment activities. Improve your leadership skills through working with other volunteers, coordinating new recruitment events, and communicating with prospective students! CONSTITUTION DAY LECTURE ON EQUAL RIGHTS
As a part of UConn's annual Constitution Day, Charles Ogletree of the Harvard Law School will lecture and discuss his take on the challenges that the United States justice system currently faces in its attempts to guarantee equal treatment to all citizens. He will argue that the justice system needs to work to protect every citizens' guaranteed rights. Don't miss this inspiring lecture! This presentation will take place on Wednesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. in the Konover Auditorium of the Dodd Center. THIS COUNTS AS AN HONORS EVENT! Charles Ogletree, the Harvard Law School Jesse Climenko Professor of Law and Vice Dean for the Clinical Programs, is a prominent legal theorist who has made an international reputation by taking a hard look at complex issues of law and by working to secure the rights guaranteed by the Constitution for everyone equally under the law. Professor Ogletree has examined these issues not only in the classroom, on the Internet and in the pages of prestigious law journals, but also in the everyday world of the public defender in the courtroom and in public television forums where these issues can be dramatically revealed.

NEW LUNCHTIME SEMINAR SERIES AT THE HOMER BABBIDGE LIBRARY
Interested in learning more about tapeworms in sharks? Maybe the prospect of traveling back in time appeals to you? Homer Babbidge Library will sponsor a new monthly lunchtime series featuring faculty discussing these and other topics in a program entitled “Research Highlights @ Noon.” All talks will take place at noon in the Class of ’47 Lecture Room, next to Bookworms Café on the library’s plaza level. The Met invites science majors to participate in a unique artistic experience! The Metropolitan Opera is opening its season with well-known Doctor Atomic, a contemporary masterpiece created by John Adams that explores an event that changed the world forever--the invention of the atomic bomb. The Metropolitan Opera invites students in the sciences at UConn to attend the final dress rehearsal and participate in a discussion on the relationship between the sciences and the arts. Lunch and transportation will be provided! The show will take place on Thursday, October 9. NOTABLE BUSINESS SPEAKER COMING TO UCONN

On Tuesday September 23, the UConn Honors Program and the Global Leadership Commission are sponsoring a lecture by Dennis Nash, a well-known entrepreneur and UConn MBA alumn. Dennis Nash is President and CEO of Control Station, Inc and will share his corporate vision and experiences in successful enterprise.
The lecture will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Thomas J. Dodd auditorium.
