University of Connecticut Honors Program Life Sciences Honors Thesis Research Grant 2009-10
To support the completion of honors theses in the life sciences, the Office of the Provost has provided funding to support honors thesis research for the 2009-2010 academic year. Funding may be used to support laboratory costs or to purchase consumables, and funding must apply to the execution of research leading to the completion of the honors thesis. click here for more information

 

CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Announcing the UConn Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. 2010 T-Shirt Design Contest! 
Open to all UConn students!  Submissions should reflect the 2010 theme, “Coalition Building: The Key to Advancing the Dream.” 

The winning submission will be used for the 2010 event, and the winning designer will receive ten of the shirts.  The event will occur on Monday January 18, 2010 in the afternoon in the Student Union, more information to come soon.

E-Mail your electronic submission to Ryan Barone at Ryan.Barone@UConn.Edu by Friday October 30, 2009.

NOTE: Submissions need to be completed in Illustrator and done in Vector Art.  Submissions must also be in JPG/PDF format.  The design may have a maximum of three colors.  The MLK Planning committee reserves the right to alter the winning submission as needed.

The Washington Undergraduate Law Review is looking for submissions.
The WULR is an academic legal journal at the University of Washington that publishes law-related essays, research papers, and other written work by undergraduates, graduate students, professors, and legal professionals. It is entirely run by undergraduates at the University of Washington who have an interest in law.

Submissions for the WULR are open to ALL MAJORS. We value papers on a variety of legal topics, and students are encouraged to submit undergraduate theses or other academic papers. Submissions will be selected for publication by the WULR’s executive editors based upon quality of writing, research, and analysis. All submissions accepted for publication may be edited for length and clarity.

All submissions for the Washington Undergraduate Law Review are due by *FRIDAY, October 9, 2009*.

The University of Connecticut Foundation is holding an ice cream social to launch Our University. Our Moment. The Campaign for UConn

The party will take place on Friday, September 25 at 12:30 pm. It will be located in Storrs on Fairfield Way, between the Student Union and the School of Business.  (Rain location is the atrium of CUE building.)

UConn faculty, staff and students are invited to enjoy complimentary ice cream from UConn’s Dairy Bar and learn about the campaign. Ice cream is first come, first served.

There will be brief speaking program starting at 1 p.m.  Campaign Chair Denis McCarthy ’64 ’65 and Jeremy Teitelbaum, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will talk about the importance of this campaign to UConn’s future. Alumna Cindy Sebrell ’91 and UConn student Brien Buckman will also speak.

 Our University. Our Moment. The Campaign for UConn promises to take the University of Connecticut to a higher platform, continuing its rise to become one of the top 20 public research universities in the country.  The goal of this multi-year campaign is $600M. To date, $190M has been raised.

This is Our Moment! Come join the kick-off celebration!

 


Kickoff event for the collaborative student workspace in Homer Babbidge Library, called the Learning Commons

On Thursday, September 24 from 3 to 4 p.m., the University Libraries, in collaboration with the Q Center, the Writing Center, the Learning Resource Center, and HuskyTech, will stage a kickoff event for the popular collaborative student workspace in Homer Babbidge Library, called the Learning Commons.

The celebration will feature remarks by Vice Provost for University Libraries Brinley Franklin and Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Regional Campus AdministrationVeronica Makowsky, an appearance by Jonathan the Husky mascot, a raffle for two iPod “Shuffles,” and cake.  Winners of the iPods must be present in order to win.

The Learning Commons brings together in one space the tools and support services that enable students to research, develop, enhance, produce and finalize their academic work assignments.  The tools and services included in the Learning Commons are:  computer workstations, printers and scanners, research databases, academic software programs, collaborative work areas, IT help, reference sources, research advice, and tutoring help.

The Learning Commons services are tied directly to the University’s General Education program and include tutoring in four of the five General Education skills competencies required of all UConn undergraduates – computer technology, information literacy, writing, and quantitative skills.
