ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE HONORS PROGRAM


SAVE THE DATE - FALL HONORS CEREMONY

SAVE THE DATE for the Fall Honors Ceremony on Monday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the Student Union. Freshmen will attend the ceremony with their INTD 1784 groups. Juniors, did you earn your Sophmore Honors Certificate? If so, please look for your invitation in your campus mail late this week.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!  LET’S PAINT THE PIT!!!

Help re-decorate the Shippee Pit.  The first step:  PAINTING!!!!  You can work all day or for a few hours.  All paint supplies will be provided.  Painting days are:  Sunday, October 5 from 2-6 pm; Saturday, October 11 from 10-6 pm; and Sunday, October 12 from 10-6 pm.  Please email Missy.Korduner@uconn.edu if you are interested in volunteering.  In your email please indicate which days and times you are interested in volunteering.

SUBMIT PICTURES AND LEAVE YOUR MARK IN HONORS!

The Honors Program and the Department of Residential Life are looking for pictures of you and your friends!  Submit pictures of you and your friends attending athletic events, playing in the snow, hanging out in the Honors communities, whatever!  These pictures will be used to re-decorate the Shippee Pit.  Please make sure ALL students in the picture approve the use of the picture for print AND include everyone’s names in the picture.  Please email your pictures to Missy.Korduner@uconn.edu by Sunday, October 5.

HIPS COORDINATOR POSITION AVAILABLE

The goal of the Honors organization Honors Initiatives for Prospective Students is to assist with the recruitment of prospective Honors students. If you are interested in getting more involved in Honors Program and improving your leadership skills, consider applying for the student coordinator position! Student coordinators play a pivotal role in organizing and developing the HIPS program and recruitment activities. Improve your leadership skills through working with other volunteers, coordinating new recruitment events, and communicating with prospective students! Interested students should submit the application to Missy Korduner in CUE 416 by the DEADLINE on Friday, September 26.

 

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES


SUMMER LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN WASHINGTON, DC

The Institute for Responsible Citizenship invites students to apply for their prestigous summer internships in Washington, DC! This program provides unparalleled opportunities in networking, leadership development, and career experience to the best and brightest African American males. Program participants will...

* Take courses on constitutional and economic principles
* Attend seminars and discussions on career development
* Work at an internship based on individual career interests ($3,000 stipend included!)
* Participate in many social activities, and finally
* Get the chance to meet influential leaders such as General Colin Powell, Congressman John Lewis, Justice Clarence Thomas, and Dr. Sheila C. Johnson!

CAREER DAY FOR SCIENCE MAJORS

The Molecular and Cellular Biology department is co-sponsoring a career day for science majors! Students have the chance to meet informally with representatives of graduate programs, medical programs, biotechnology companies and UConn career resources. Organizations attending include OnAssignment lab staffing, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, and many more! Hear more about the opportunities that wait for you after graduation! MCB Career Day will take place on Wednesday, October 1 in Biology/Physics 131.
