UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR SCIENCE MAJORS
The Met invites science majors to participate in a unique artistic experience! The Metropolitan Opera is opening its season with well-known Doctor Atomic, a contemporary masterpiece created by John Adams that explores an event that changed the world forever--the invention of the atomic bomb. The Metropolitan Opera invites students in the sciences at UConn to attend the final dress rehearsal and participate in a discussion on the relationship between the sciences and the arts. Lunch and transportation will be provided! The show will take place on Thursday, October 9. On Tuesday September 23, the UConn Honors Program and the Global Leadership Commission are sponsoring a lecture by Dennis Nash, a well-known entrepreneur and UConn MBA alumn. Dennis Nash is President and CEO of Control Station, Inc and will share his corporate vision and experiences in successful enterprise.
The lecture will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Thomas J. Dodd auditorium. Professor Mark Overmyer-Velazquez invites Honors students to apply for a Winter Intersession UConn Study Abroad program in Oaxaca and will work with participants who wish to earn Honors credit. The Social Entrepreneurship Symposium is an opportunity for the UConn community to hear first-hand about the student experiences in their two month program with Social Entrepreneur Corps through UConn Study Abroad. Students who have previously participated in the summer program Social Entrepreneurship in Guatemala will show presentations on their experiences. Their presentations focus on how they applied their knowledge and practice of social entrepreneurship while working with local entrepreneurs in Guatemala. CREATE MOVIES TO EDUCATE
Are you computer savvy? Are you interested in promoting education to the public? If so, its time to get involved! Professor Benjamin Wilhite of the School of Engineering is looking for a student to assist in a project that educates the public on topics such as sustainable energy, catalytic systems, fuel cells, and more, through a series of short on-line movies. This student must be proficient with computers and interested in creating these short movies or animations—Perfect for education, computer science, or communications majors! Interested students
