The Psychology of Belonging, Identity, and Connection

Kimberli Treadwell

Tuesday/Thursdays 8:30AM - 9:20AM

The Psychology of Belonging, Identity, and Connection is a seminar-style first-year experience course that explores how relationships, identity, and social experiences shape psychological well-being during the transition to college. Drawing from psychological science, students will examine topics such as friendship formation, social anxiety, loneliness, social media, group identity, and the human need to belong. Through discussion-based activities, self-reflection, and collaborative exercises, students will develop insight into how connection influences mental health, resilience, and personal growth. Designed for first-year honors students from all majors, the course emphasizes community-building, meaningful dialogue, and the development of supportive interpersonal skills for college and beyond.
