This information is specific to housing on the Storrs campus. If you will be attending UConn Stamford, please see the general information about first-year Honors housing and follow the Residential Life policies and processes.
Buckley Hall and Shippee Hall make up the First Year Honors Residential Community. All incoming first-year Honors students who live on the Storrs campus will live in Buckley/Shippee.* UConn students interested in an academically focused living environment will also be invited to occupy the remaining space in Buckley/Shippee. All Buckley/Shippee residents, regardless of whether they have been admitted to the Honors Program, are considered part of the Honors Residential Community.
* Exceptions are made for varsity athletes, who may choose to live with their teams, and students with disabilities that cannot be accommodated in Buckley/Shippee.
Roommate Selection
Residential Life has implemented a new roommate matching tool: My College Roomie (MCR). Students set up profiles in MCR, complete questionnaires about their social, academic, and lifestyle preferences, and find potential roommates.
If you have already connected with another Honors student who you would like to room with, you will be able to find them by name within MCR.
If you haven’t found a roommate yet, use MCR’s matching tools to find other compatible Honors students. Can’t find your “perfect roomie” right away? Don’t worry! The deadline for students to apply for housing is June 14th. You can expect to see new roommate options available in MCR until close to the June 30 deadline for roommate selection.
Check your UConn email for information about setting up your My College Roomie profile. For more information, or for assistance, go to https://uconn.mycollegeroomie.app
Non-Honors Roommates
There may be space in Buckley/Shippee for first-year Honors students to bring in non-Honors roommates. You cannot complete this kind of match within My College Roomie. Instead, you should submit a request for a non-Honors roommate. The form will then be sent to your requested roommate for confirmation before forwarded to Residential Life.
Please understand that these requests will be considered on a space-available basis, so they cannot be guaranteed. Due to this year’s later deadlines for enrollment and housing applications, available space may not be known until after June 1.
Gender Inclusive Housing
The Honors Program recognizes the importance of creating an inclusive residential community that does not force our students to choose between Honors and their other identities. A Gender Inclusive (GI) housing floor is located within the Honors Residential Community. To live on the GI floor, email Randy Shannon (randy.shannon@uconn.edu) and Nate Knight (nathan.knight@uconn.edu). Please include your Student ID number and the fact that you are in the Honors Program with your request for GI housing.
Accommodations
If you have a documented disability that may impact your living environment, request a housing accommodation through the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD). If at all possible, do this no later than July 1. You will provide any necessary medical documentation, and the CSD staff will determine what accommodations, if any, are necessary and communicate this to Residential Life. The Residential Life housing specialist will attempt to keep you in Buckley/Shippee. If your medical needs cannot be met in Buckley or Shippee, they will attempt to place you in another Honors community.
Don’t forget to also apply for Housing, follow all Residential Life instructions, and meet their deadlines (including any for the Honors Residential Community).
CSD works with students individually to develop accommodations that support student success. Visit csd.uconn.edu or call (860)486-2020 for more information.
