Across all 30 Honors credits (including those used for Honors Scholar in your major), you need:
- Honors Core: At least 3 Honors credits
- Course categories: At least 3 Honors credits in each of the following:
- Arts & Humanities (A&H)
- Social Science (SS)
- Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM)
- Diversity & Multiculturalism (D&M): At least 3 Honors credits
We want you to have flexibility in your Honors experience, so you can use a single course to meet multiple requirements.
Honors Core
The Honors Core is a select set of courses designed to engage you in interdisciplinary scholarship connected to real-world problems.
Every semester, the list of Core courses being offered is posted on the Current Honors Courses page. You can find past semesters’ lists at the bottom of that page as well.
If you want to know all the semesters a specific Honors Core has been offered, use the Course Lookup tool within the UHL Distribution App.
Every Honors Core course will also fulfill a course category, and some will fulfill the Diversity & Multiculturalism requirement.
Course Categories
Almost any UConn course in which you earn Honors credit will count towards one of these categories. This includes course conversions and graduate courses.
The UHL Distribution App is the easiest way to determine what courses will fulfill particular categories:
- Course categories has a tab for each of the three categories.
- By Subject Code is navigated using the letter tabs at the top and the subject code buttons on the left.
- Course Lookup is available for all courses, and it should definitely be used for any independent studies or variable topics courses. These courses may have substitute categorizations for different semesters or sections; any such substitutions will be listed.
Note: A course being listed in the app does not guarantee that an Honors section will be offered, nor that an Honors conversion will be approved.
Diversity & Multiculturalism (D&M)
When applicable, this designation “stacks” on top of the course category. This requirement may be met through course conversions and graduate courses.
Use the UHL Distribution App to determine what courses will fulfill the D&M designation:
- Diversity & Multiculturalism lists all approved subject codes and courses
- By Subject Code includes a section for Diversity & Multiculturalism
- Course Lookup includes whether a course fulfills the D&M designation. Always check your independent study and variable topics courses here; some may have been approved for D&M for a specific section or semester.
Note: A course being listed in the app does not guarantee that an Honors section will be offered, nor that an Honors conversion will be approved.
