Admission to the Rowe Scholars Program

A small cohort of scholarship recipients are selected each year to hold the title of John and Valerie Rowe Health Professions Scholars. The program is open by invitation to incoming first years and by application to rising juniors who are Connecticut residents interested in pursuing careers in the health industry. Students who have participated in Health Career Opportunity Programs receive special consideration for the Rowe Scholars Program. John and Valerie Rowe Scholars are also part of the distinguished UConn Honors Program.

First Years

Admission is by invitation. First year students considered for a Rowe scholarship generally rank within the top 10 percent of their high school class and have strong SAT scores (especially in mathematics). Incoming first years will receive their invitation letter in the summer.  First year Rowe Scholars are automatically admitted to the prestigious UConn Honors Program with their Rowe invitations.

Juniors

In Spring 2012, the program began accepting applications from rising juniors. Rising juniors are defined as undergraduate students who, by the time of entry into the Rowe Scholars Program, have at least 54 completed credits and four semesters remaining until their expected date of graduation. If not already members of the Honors Program, Rowe applicants must apply to Honors.

The Admissions Committee is looking for rising juniors:

• Attended high school in Connecticut
• Are members of the Honors Program
• Come from low-income backgrounds and are underrepresented in the health professions and/or are first-generation college students
• Have demonstrated commitment to a career in the health professions

Essays must be original works written solely by the applicant.
