We understand that the processes associated with getting Honors Housing can be confusing, and uncertainty about your living arrangements can cause a great deal of stress. Please review this page carefully.

All deadlines are set by Campus Housing and are firm. Honors cannot help you get an extension.

The process of getting Honors housing at Storrs can be divided into roughly three phases:

Campus Housing
Upper Division Honors Housing
Roommate and Room Selections

The following sections include information about each phase. The timeline at the bottom of this page gives step-by-step instructions and important dates. We will continue to reach out and give assistance along the way!

Campus Housing

The information in this section applies to all campus housing, not just Honors. Neither your status as an Honors student nor whether you select Honors Housing will affect whether you are granted campus housing for 2026-2027.

The housing application will open at 12:01 AM on January 1 and is due on February 13. (If you are changing campuses for Fall 2026, your housing application will be due March 6.) In order to be eligible for campus housing, you must submit your application on time. Some students are guaranteed housing if they submit their application on time and meet other eligibility requirements. This includes:

Current first-year students living on campus
Students who will be campus changing to Storrs for Fall 2026 and have not previously lived on campus at Storrs

Other students may be granted campus housing. To maximize your chances of receiving campus housing:

Check that you meet the eligibility requirements
Complete your housing application as soon as possible once it is available
Make sure that you are receiving emails sent from livingoncampus@uconn.edu (One was sent on 11/10/2025)

Applicants will be told whether they have been granted campus housing by the end of February. If you are not granted campus housing, you will be put on a waiting list. Students on the waiting list may receive campus housing offers later, but they will not be able to participate in the April roommate and room selections.

Honors cannot move students off of the waiting list for campus housing.

Upper Division Honors Housing

For the 2026-2027 academic year, Upper Division Honors Housing will have the same number of beds as this year: all of Snow Hall, 2 floors in Connecticut Hall, and 2 floors in Shippee. The Honors housing selection process for the 2025-2026 academic year saw an unprecedented demand. We were able to place everyone who requested Honors housing into the Upper Division Honors community, but we cannot increase any further without taking away from the space we need for incoming first-year students. We also do not know what the effect of the university's policy on housing availability will be on our community. Because of this uncertainty, we are implementing an Honors Housing interest survey, and we are leaving open the possibility of creating a waitlist for Honors housing. If we do need to limit the number of students offered Honors housing, it will be based on this prioritized list:

Students campus changing to Storrs in Spring 2026 or Fall 2026
Current first-year students
Current second-year students
Current third-year students

Within each priority group, preference will be given to those who completed the Honors Housing Interest survey by December 1.

Honors Housing Interest Survey

Keep in mind that that the Honors housing waitlist would be different from the campus housing waiting list.

Only students who have been granted campus housing will be considered for Honors housing.
Students placed on the Honors housing waitlist will still receive campus housing. If they do not receive space in Honors housing, they will participate in general selection.

If we do need to implement the Honors housing waitlist, we will make our initial offers on Feb. 23. We then have time for up to two rounds of offers to the waitlist between then and Mar. 20.

Students offered Honors housing will have 1 week to complete the Residential Community Acceptance Form. This form is a binding commitment to select a room in the Upper Division Honors Community during their assigned selection time.
Students not completing the Residential Community Acceptance Form will be moved to general housing selection. There is no penalty, but they will not be able to select a space in Honors housing.
If a student offered Honors housing has a desired roommate on the Honors housing waitlist, they will have the opportunity to move onto the waiting list alongside their desired roommate.
Anyone still on the Honors housing waitlist on March 20 will be informed that they are moving to general housing selection.

Roommate and Room Selections

Students who complete the Residential Community Acceptance Form will be participating in Honors housing selection (April 8-10). Students who do not complete the form will be participating in general housing selection (April 15 - May 1). Within each of these, there are separate processes for male and female room selections. Roommate matching opens on March 31 for all students. You will only be able to match other students in the same selection process. March 31 is also when you will learn your specific selection time. As usual, priority for selection times within each process is based on earned credits, and students with more credits can bring in one or more of their matched roommates.

Because there are separate selection processes, you may find that someone of the opposite gender has an earlier selection time than you do, despite having fewer credits. Rooms are designated male and female in advance, so this does not place you at a disadvantage.

You must select a room during your assigned selection times. If you do not, you will lose campus housing altogether. If you are not happy with your room selection, you may participate in the summer room change process. Students may also request to move into or out of the Honors community at this time.

Honors Housing Timeline

Before Jan. 1

Complete the Honors Housing Interest Survey. This survey will give us important information about demand.

Jan. 1

Complete the Housing Application. The Housing Application will become available right at the start of the new year: 12:01 AM on January 1. We advise all students to complete this application as soon as possible, although those with guaranteed housing may wait until closer to the deadline. On your Housing Application, select "Honors Upper Division Housing" from the Learning Community dropdown. This choice is not binding, so select Honors if you are even considering living in Honors housing.

Feb. 13

Due date for the Housing Application. This deadline is firm. If your application is late, you will be placed on the waiting list for campus housing, regardless of any other factors. Honors cannot change Campus Housing deadlines. If you submitted your Housing Application without selecting "Honors Upper Division Housing," you can email livingoncampus@uconn.edu and ask for it to be changed.

Feb. 19

Find out if you received campus housing or have been placed on the campus housing waiting list. If you are put on the waiting list for campus housing, you will not be able to participate in housing selection in April. If you are given campus housing later, you may request a space in the Honors community.

Feb. 23

If you received campus housing, find out if you received Honors housing or have been placed on the Honors housing waitlist. If you receive Honors housing, you will have 1 week to complete the Residential Community Acceptance Form, which is a binding agreement that you will select a room in the Upper Division Honors Community during your assigned selection time.

Mar. 2

Residential Community Acceptance Forms due. This form is required in order to live in Honors housing and is also a binding agreement that you will participate in Honors housing selection. If you don't complete the Residential Community Acceptance Form on time, you will be moved into general housing selection. There is no penalty associated with this, so do not return the form if you no longer wish to live in Honors housing.

Mar. 4

First round of Honors housing waitlist offers. If you receive Honors housing, you will have until March 11 to complete the binding Residential Community Acceptance Form or be moved into general housing selection.

Mar. 13

Second round of Honors housing waitlist offers (if necessary). Residential Community Acceptance Forms will be due March 20. If you are still on the Honors housing waitlist after the second round of offers, you'll be informed that you are being moved to general housing selection.

Mar. 31

Receive your housing selection time and start matching with roommates. Remember that you can only match with a roommate in the same selection process as you.

Apr. 8

Honors housing selection begins. If you are in the Honors housing selection process, you must select a room in the Upper Division Honors Community by April 10. If you do not, you will lose campus housing altogether.

Apr. 15

General housing selection begins. If you are in general housing selection, you must select a room by May 1 to avoid losing campus housing.
