Advisor Thesis Approval Instructions

For December 2025 graduates, approved theses are due by December 5, 2025, in Quest.
For May 2026 graduates, approved theses are due by May 1, 2026, in Quest.
For August 2026 graduates, approved theses are due by August 31, 2026, in Quest.

The process outlined below collects an electronic copy of the thesis and approvals and is for Honors Program use only. The Honors office will not share or post the thesis file anywhere online. Students and advisors should discuss the possibility of posting to Digital Commons, which is not required by the Honors program.

The Honors Thesis Submission process will take place within Quest after all revisions are complete.  The Quest workflow was not designed to be used for a revision process, only to collect the final version.

Step by Step Approval Instructions

Thesis supervisor and Honors advisor approvals will be completed through a recommendation request. This is the terminology used by the Quest system and could not be changed; your "recommendation" for the thesis is a simple form with checkboxes, not a separate letter.

  1. When a student sends you a recommendation request, you will receive an email from UConn Quest Portal with the subject line Request for RecommendationIf you do not receive the email, it may have gone to a spam/junk folder.
  2. Please do not use the button within the email. Instead:
    1. Go to quest.uconn.edu
    2. Click on Log In in the top right corner
    3. Select UConn Single Sign-on, then log in using your NetID and password
    4. If prompted to select a role, choose "Recommender"
  3. You will now see all recommendation requests. Click the START button to begin a recommendation.
  4. The next page asks you to accept or decline the recommendation.
    • If the submission is correct, click the ACCEPT button to continue.
    • If the submission is incorrect, or if you are not the right person to approve this thesis, click the DECLINE button. Please communicate with the student ASAP so that they can correct any errors.
  5. After you accept the recommendation, you will be asked to complete a short form confirming your approval of the thesis. Click the SUBMIT button when you are finished.

Once all recommendations are submitted, the thesis is automatically routed to the Honors Program for review.

Are you Serving as Thesis Supervisor and Honors Advisor

If you serve as both the Thesis Supervisor and the Honors advisor for a student, the student must send you a recommendation requests for each role and you will need to complete both before the student's thesis will be submitted.

For Students Submitting More than One Thesis

If a student is completing more than one Honors thesis, they will need upload each thesis as a separate submission and send recommendation requests for their Thesis Supervisor and Honors advisor for each thesis.

For Students Submitting One Thesis for Multiple Majors

One Thesis for Two Majors

If a student is submitting a one thesis that has been approved to count for two majors, they will upload their thesis and send recommendation requests to their Thesis Supervisor and the Honors advisor for each major.  All three advisors must complete the recommendations before the thesis will be submitted.

One Thesis for Three Majors

If a student is submitting a one thesis that has been approved to count for three majors, they will upload their thesis and send recommendation requests to their Thesis Supervisor and the Honors advisor for each major.  All four advisors must complete the recommendations before the thesis will be submitted.

If You Do Not Receive a Recommendation Request You Were Expecting

If you do not receive a recommendation request that you were expecting, please confirm with the student that they sent it to the correct email address and ask them to resend if necessary.

Please email honors@uconn.edu with any questions about the process and for help troubleshooting.

    Declining a Recommendation Request

If the thesis supervisor or the Honors advisor(s) decline a recommendation, the student will be instructed to delete their submission and begin a new one. This will ensure that the student, thesis supervisor, and Honors advisor(s) are all working on the same version.
